Audrey, Audrey, what have you got yourself into? Thou who so unforgettably charmed in "Roman Holiday," is now in a western whose only the western pioneers' hatred of the natives can be accepted as somewhat authentic, and for the rest presents a very simple story. Predictable too and those who are drawn to the gunfights, remember that there is much better to experience.

Very mediocre, I think. Of course a Burt Lancaster is cast in such films, but we expected that from him.

Reasonable film about a family whose adopted daughter has a hidden origin. The first half of the film could easily have been shortened a bit and is rather long-winded. During the second half there are some good scenes and the film gets a bit heavier. Of the cast, Lillian Gish stands out the most.

It's been a while since I've seen a western. This film by John Huston is a film about racism packaged as a western. The star cast does a great job – especially good old Lillian Gish – but that does not alter the fact that the light-skinned Audrey Hepburn with her brown locks is hopelessly miscast as a young woman with Native American roots. The film dates back to a time when in this kind of films every shot of the righteous settlers hit the mark and the barbarian Indians could not put a dent in a packet of butter. For now, I've had enough of this kind of highly romanticized stories about the "Wild West".
