The presumed dead brother of wealthy heiress Kimberley Prescott appears out of nowhere to claim his share. Of course, that brings some problems, especially when it turns out that everyone believes his story, except Kimberley.

Anne Baxter plays a wealthy young lady in possession of an inheritance and a beautiful villa on the Costa Brava. One day, a man turns up claiming to be her brother who had died in a car accident the year before and whose corpse was identified by Baxter. She is sure of that. He's after a share of the inheritance. In his wake he takes a butler and an unpleasant woman. The alerted police confirm his identity based on his papers. An exciting cat and mouse game begins.
Chase a Crooked Shadow is a modest production that mainly takes place in and around the rural villa. The film manages to play off the contrast between the beautiful landscape and the cutting atmosphere indoors. The plot has a certain strange logic that is convincing and generates feelings of uncertainty and tension. Beautifully staged and equipped with good acting and suggestive and high-contrast camera work, a successful thriller is created. Stylish, quite straightforward and with an unexpected apotheosis. Somewhat unlikely, but nevertheless very entertaining.
