The free-spirited Yonosuke's life revolved around his quest for sexual pleasure. He was disinherited by his father when he was 18, followed by 16 uncertain years and Yonosuke wandering around Japan. His father passed away when he was 34, who forgave him and left him a valuable legacy. When Yonosuke is 57, his tailor Jozu comes to him for help. Jozu has placed a bet with a wealthy merchant that Joshua will share the bed on the first meeting with Komurasaki, Edo's most desirable prostitute. If successful then Joshua will win a villa but if not then Joshua will lose his manhood. Yonosuke tells Jozu that Komurasaki is a special prostitute, who never shares the first night with the client. For example, the first two days are intended for introductions and social rituals. Yonosuke arranges for Jozu to meet with Komurasaki, but then Jozu is left on his own.
