De Eeuwen Omringen Mij met Vuur: Osip Mandelstam plot

The director manages to film Nadjezhda Mandelstam in Moscow on May 1, 1973. The widow of the Russian poet Osip Mandelstam (1891-1938) describes the horrors of Stalinism, but also the great love she felt for her husband. Diamand goes to Moscow with Italian communists from Rome to celebrate May 1, as a leftist tourist with a super-8 film camera. In this way he manages to escape the attention of the KGB, who are completely preoccupied with the great Labor Day parade in Red Square. Diamand promises Mrs. Mandelstam that he will only show the recordings after her death, so as not to cause her further trouble with the authorities.
