Expected more. Still good, this 'The Rover'. Well played by Pattinson and dog lover Pearce. For one a search for his car, for the other a search for his brother. Visually fine, great supporting music and a nice (somewhat apocalyptic) atmosphere. A foundation has been laid in a world where it doesn't matter much anymore. A few strong, hard scenes and interesting enough from start to finish. However, nowhere does the print reach extraordinary heights.

By Guy Pearce's beards, what a fine cult pulp! In line with recent retro tributes such as 'Cop Car' (2015) and 'Bone Tomahawk' (2015). That sultry, languid atmosphere with hyper-violent explosions of violence and (quasi-) philosophical musings about good and evil. Hallucinating because of the combination of beautiful desert shots with electronic music. About an archetypal angry white man (Guy Pearce) who is past the point where morals matter to him. He bites into the theft of his car like Charles Bronson would take revenge on everyone in the Death Wish series. A country bumpkin (Robert Pattison) left for dead holds up a mirror to him. The strange chemistry between Pearce/Pattison, between which an occasional friendship can turn into revenge at any moment, remains exciting until the end.

On a road to nowhere

Beautiful shots of the Australian emptiness combined with the key question "why" ensured that my attention was held in this road movie.

Actually, nothing, or at least minimally, is explained or deepened so that afterwards, all the way with the final shot, you are left with the answer "oh, that's why". And a kind of unsatisfactory feeling of "mja and mwoah".
