"Ready Or Not, Here He Comes!"
They are looking forward to it: the students who are going to lead a summer camp for a summer. But even before they arrive, they hear terrifying stories about masked serial killer Trevor Moorehouse. In all the disappearances of vacationers and camp leaders over the past decades, he would have had the hand, or rather: the chainsaw. On their first evening, the students traditionally play the game 'Bloody Murder'. That may just be Trevor Moorehouse's favorite game. But he does have his own rules.

Well, if I see a masked guy with a chainsaw on a cover of a DVD, I always have to take it with me, often against my better judgement. This is also the case with this Bloody Murder. Where I was still hoping for an entertaining cheesefest, this is just pretty colorless and boring.
The opening scene is nevertheless quite nice (although it is very very clear that the chainsaw was not on). Such a hockey mask is of course very standard, but often effective. The same goes for this opening scene. Unfortunately, the imposter that takes over afterward looks a lot less impressive (rather laughable). The characters are very stupid. Still a loss as a simple slasher if this one doesn't even have a few nice caricatures. These people are all gray mice.
Many boring scenes, an uninteresting police investigation, very scarce gore, and often the kills are not really well constructed (despite the fact that such a bow and arrow scene has quite some potential). Actually, after that opening, there is very little to enjoy.

Whether the movie is a ripoff or a homage to Friday the 13th, I can't say. But the link is definitely there. Not only the whole story could be such a movie from the franchise, but more. The mask in the film was apparently already used in the film Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers (Film, 1988) where 2 students dress up as (yep!) Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger. There is also a character named Jason in Bloody Murder. It's thick on it. 
The film lacks the charm of the first Friday the 13th. On the other hand, worse parts have been made in the F13 franchise. The story itself isn't bad. Especially the same, of course, with a lot of teenagers at camp, but I was still looking for who the killer was. Not that it was that hard, but you usually see that with these kinds of films from the 1st minute. The advantage of a completely unknown cast.
Bloody Murder is never really good, but it's better than it looks. What a guilty pleasure, but still quite enjoyed it.
