Dood op Verzoek plot

In 'Death on Request', Maarten Nederhorst follows Cees (Cornelis) van Wendel de Joode, who lives in Amsterdam, who has the deadly muscle disease ALS. At the end of 1993, his GP concluded that the end was inevitable. Van Wendel de Joode then makes it known that he wants euthanasia. Maarten Nederhorst records the entire process of euthanasia: from the doctor's conversations with Cees, up to and including the evening on which he administers the requested injections. The documentary places great emphasis on the role of the general practitioner. He does more than just grant his patient's request; it is precisely the intensive guidance of Cees and his wife throughout the process that demands his full attention.
