Ladybird, Ladybird plot
Maggie has four children, all fathered by different men, all of whom she left because they mistreated her. During a fire, Maggie's children are injured. To her sorrow she loses her parental power, the child protection services do not find her a suitable mother. When she meets the gentle and loving Jorge, they have a child together. But Child Protective Services reserves the right to keep even this newborn baby away from Maggie and her husband.

A different approach would have done this film good, because the subject is quite interesting (I had to see it as part of my education in pedagogy). However, the execution is that of a soap opera, with a leading role for the whining and hysterical screaming of mother Maggie, and the imagery is that of an average Life as it is series. Food for thought, but that does not make it a good film.

Excellent film about a woman who is no longer allowed to see her children because of social services. A poignant social drama as only Ken Loach can make them. Without fuss and a strong role by Crissy Rock in a somewhat unsympathetic role. Tiring to see how the authorities try to help the woman.

Another one that hits home. Deeply sad story of a single mother of 4 and later 5 children with just as many different men. A story about dominant aggressive men with a short fuse who beat Maggie up for nothing. It creates an unsafe environment for the children, which is why they are placed there. The fate and traumas of the woman herself seem secondary.
Fortunately, she does get to know a gentle man. But the hopeless situation and struggle remain. Very confronting and authentic film again by Ken Loach in his typical style. Enjoyed is perhaps a wrong choice of words, but I was again impressed by the excellent cast and the plot.
