Average.

A run-of-the-mill film. Fake documentary/found footage film that this time takes place in the jungle of Indonesia. It sounds like a cool location, but after 80 minutes of forest and leaves it turns out to be a bit boring.

Also too many night scenes. Exciting for a while, but staring into nothingness for a long time, waiting for a few reflecting eyes does not make for brilliant cinema. Acting is also on the poor side and although the mystery remains reasonably intact, the film does not really surprise.

In terms of execution it lacks some tension, in terms of setting it lacks some more variation and in terms of climax it lacks enough threat. In itself it is not even such a bad film, partly due to the somewhat shorter playing time, but it adds too little and does not always manage to strike the right chord.

2.0*

After crocodiles in the exciting Black Water and white sharks in the oppressive The Reef, it is now the turn of leopards in the deadly dull The Jungle. Director Andrew Traucki really overdoes it here. There is hardly any plot, the characters are annoying and the camerawork, yet another variation on the documentary/found footage approach, is so three years ago. For most of the film, you are literally looking at some bushes and trees, without anything noteworthy happening. If you make it to the end (quite a challenge), you are in for an unpleasant surprise, which literally and figuratively falls from the sky.

Director Andrew Traucki clearly demonstrates an affinity for human nature, as almost all of his projects revolve around dangerous animals that take turns devouring the main characters. Although The Jungle has a slightly different design, the concept is essentially the same. The unfortunate thing is that for a long time, Traucki doesn't get much further than a wildly shaking camera capturing various leaves, twigs, trees, uninteresting characters, and the occasional twinkling eye in the darkness. At least 80 minutes of this film are wasted in this way, resulting in an incredibly dull spectacle with relatively little sensation. Towards the end, things liven up a bit, but someone with Traucki's experience and creativity should have handled this better.
