Heavy drinking reporter Alf Matsson writes for a Swedish tabloid. During a business trip to Budapest, he disappears without a trace. While his newspaper wants to inform readers and spread the word about the incident, the Swedish government goes to great lengths to avoid any attention. Stockholm police detective Beck is therefore sent behind the Iron Curtain to search incognito for the reporter's activities. But Beck has a big problem: how is he supposed to find a foreigner in a city of two million inhabitants? Perhaps Ari, a Hungarian friend of the missing person, can help him...
