A wonderfully hysterical film, miles over the top, doesn't take itself seriously for a second. Beautiful sixties-esque styling, but heavily exaggerated, just like in the first Austin Powers. Zellweger's diction in particular is also very good.

McGregor isn't bad, but it didn't do much for me. (I think Clooney, for example, would have done much better.) David Hyde Pierce is also great in this movie, but his character is so similar to the one from Frasier that it probably didn't bother him.

The plot is original, but not very well developed. The dialogues are decent.

The film is a bit too long, the last half hour adds little, except for the denouement, which I didn't see coming. Zellweger's monologue is hilarious because of its length and its way of speaking, but actually quite moving because of the content. It contrasts quite a bit with everything before it, but still rounds out the film nicely.

Top movie. 4.5 star.

Good film about the author of a popular book in which women renounce love. A screwball comedy about the battle of the sexes that you know in advance how it will end. The old-fashioned aspect of this film is refreshing. All presented in style. Renée Zellweger and Ewan McGregor have a great time together.

“We're acting just like two people... in love.”

Ewan McGregor and Renée Zellweger who revolve around each other all the time, and eventually come to the conclusion that they can't live without each other. In the 60's with lots of colorful sets and costumes. Down with Love is a spectacle that bursts with energy and fun. The dialogues are sharp and the pace is fast. Womanizer and feminist journalist fall in love, and the result is a relationship that would fit Gone Girl. But with the sympathetic McGregor and Zellweger.
