Gebo (Michael Lonsdale) lives in a modest house with his wife and daughter-in-law, who care for them as if they were her own parents. Gebo's only son Joao has been gone for some time, much to the mother's despair and Gebo's contempt, because he suspects Joao of devious practices. Then one night Joao suddenly shows up. The mother believes he is back for good, but Gebo is under no illusions. So it seems intentional that Gebo doesn't hide the large sum of money he keeps for the company he works for...
