Ringu: Jiko Ka! Henshi Ka! 4-tsu no Inochi wo Ubau Shôjo no Onnen plot

"Accident, or strange death? The girl that steals four lives"

In various places in Tokyo, four apparently healthy people die suddenly from heart failure, at exactly the same time. Journalist Kazuyuki Asakawa decides to investigate the matter further and discovers that the four had been staying together in a rural inn a week earlier. Arriving at the inn, he discovers a strange video tape that ends with the message that anyone who watches the tape will die exactly seven days later. And so Kazuyuki starts a race against time to lift the curse...

Extremely charming due to its clumsy design, it is very interesting to see how the earliest predecessor of the iconic horror character was colored. However, it is not a film that stands out because of its visual or substantive quality, because director Chisui Takigawa works chaotically and handles the creepier scenes questionably. I often had trouble holding back my laughter, but that made it an enjoyable film. Katsunori Takahashi also plays a sympathetic main character, despite the sometimes poor acting. The absolute clunkiness of the concepts and the extremely stupid finale reveal that there was no great or ambitious talent behind the film, but regardless it was very easy to watch.
