Disney's 45th full-length cartoon had a difficult production process. The pre-production of Home On The Range had already started in 1995. However, due to various production problems, it took another 9 years before the film could actually be seen in cinemas. Such a production process often does not promise much good, and unfortunately that is also the case with Home On The Range.

In terms of animation, this is probably one of the least Disney cartoons of the new millennium. It all looks Disney-unworthy.

Fortunately, the content of the film is very entertaining thanks to the infectious humor and fun minor characters such as the horse Buck (voice: Gooding Jr.), the prairie rabbit Lucky Jack (voice: Haid), the grumpy goat Jeb (voice: Flaherty) and the oil thieves. the Willie Brothers (voice: Levine). In addition, Alameda Slim (voice: Quaid) is also a nice villain and his yodel songs are hilarious.

The film received mixed reviews and was a huge flop in cinemas. It had been in the air for a while at the time, but Disney subsequently announced that Home On The Range would be the last animated film to use traditional 2D animation. The studio would henceforth focus exclusively on 3D computer animation. In 2006, Disney bought the company Pixar and John Lasseter became the new director of Disney. His first decision was to revive 2D animation and so production of The Princess And The Frog was started.

I was afraid to see the film because of the low scores, in the end the scores are greatly exaggerated. Ok, it is by no means a topper in the oeuvre, but certainly an entertaining story that is nice to follow. Humor is ok, not to laugh about, but certainly not cringe-inducing as some here claim, sometimes a bit childish. Music was one of the better points in the movie for me. I saw Frozen 2 before this and unlike that movie, these songs sounded real and sincere. The drawing style is not beautiful, they should have left out the cheap CGI. The characters were okay, no more, no less, only Buck's character stood out in a negative way.

My journey through the Disney classics (mainly the ones I haven't seen yet, but also some rewatching) continues. With varying degrees of success, the old compilation films are tough, I didn't think Tarzan was great, on the other hand Hercules was okay and The Black Cauldron remains quite good despite a somewhat confused story. But hey, it could be, because compared to this crap Tarzan was kind of like The Godfather of Citizen Kane.

Well, I can't really think of anything positive about Home on the Range. The main problem comes from the constant attempts to be funny, but it's really too lame for words. But beyond that, it's not very smooth either. A plot of nothing. Irritating meaningless characters, with silly jokes and in some cases annoyingly hyperactive stuff. Poor animations, mainly of the characters. No, I was happy when it was finished.
