"After the war was won, the battle for peace began."
This is a story of love and understanding set during the tensions and uncertainties of the days immediately following Japan's surrender at the end of World War II. Within the staff of General Douglas MacArthur (Jones), who is the de facto leader of Japan as Supreme Commander of the Occupying Power, a Japan expert, General Bonner Feller (Fox), must make a decision of historic importance: should Emperor Hirohito try and be convicted as a war criminal? His decision is largely influenced by his memories of and the search for Aya, a Japanese student he met years ago in the US.
