Elements of Lynch and Cronenberg in this strange film. Horror? Well, maybe. Thriller? Not at all. Comedy? Didn't work for me... I don't really like these kinds of dreamy films. It has to be really good to appeal to me. But generally speaking, these kinds of trip films are so far gone that they're just boring. I can't really do anything with this. After a while I really felt like 'what am I watching now'. It may have its audience, but I'm not one of them.

Dermot Mulroney plays a cool role and some gore scenes are okay. But then you've had it with this road movie that actually has nothing to offer in terms of story. Many boring moments present themselves and you wonder what this crazy trip is even about. I can also enjoy a mysterious or dreamy film, but it has to be something. 3/10

Entertaining film in which Dermot Mulroney plays by far one of his best roles, certainly since he is given the freedom and pleasure to actively do something with his character. Director Calvin Reeder is then tasked with creating a fun setting for the surrounding situations, but this only comes off with mixed success. Fortunately, the first half has a healthy dose of humor that is well mixed with the western environment, in which every now and then a bridge is designed to horror. The second half is significantly different in nature, in which Reeder actively searches for a true experience and in doing so the narrative becomes secondary. Despite some nice effects, this does not really get off the ground. It is all absurd enough, but visually not compact and tight enough to provide the viewer with really impressive angles. As a result, a film like The Rambler is not entirely successful, but it is actively "something different" and therefore quite entertaining.
