Andreas Hofer 1809 - Die Freiheit des Adlers plot

In 1805, Napoleon defeated the Austrian and Russian troops at the Battle of Austerlitz. Tyrol falls into the hands of Napoleon, who hands over the region to the Bavarian government, which under Montgelas imposes a strict regime on the Tyroleans. The high taxes and a reformation of the church made the Catholic Tyroleans shudder and prompted a bloody struggle for liberation led by the legendary Andreas Hofer.

Reasonable television film with the shortest and most corpulent Napoleon I have ever seen. And in German too. Fortunately, with the necessary sense of humor. Waving in the spazier corridor with Marie Louise was wonderful. Although the first signs of obesity were recorded in 1809 by von Löwenstern, Napoleon did not yet reach the size presented here in his best days on Elba.

Then Andreas Hofer, who looks a bit like Barbossa from the Black Pearl on the poster, does not seem very sympathetic with his Catholic fanaticism. Killing a defenseless boy in Bavarian service doesn't help either.

There is nothing to criticize about the decoration and atmosphere. The battle scenes are a bit clumsy and the battles for the Bergisel rather disappointing. The denouement is also not entirely according to tradition.

Not that good, but still entertaining. Tight enough.
