A Tale of Two Cities plot
On the eve of the French Revolution (1775), doctor Alexandre Manette (Jean-Pierre Aumont), after having been innocently imprisoned in the Bastille for 18 years, is unexpectedly released. He is taken in by his former servant Monsieur Defarge (Gerárd Klein), who runs a winery with his wife (Kathy Kriegel) and also leads the resistance against the aristocracy. The doctor is picked up and taken to France by his own daughter Lucie (Serena Gordon), who thought he was dead, and his old friend Jarvis Lorry (John Mills). Along the way, they meet Charles Darnay (Xavier Deluc), who is on trial as a spy in London. Young lawyer Sydney Carton (James Wilby), who looks a lot like Darnay, gets him out with a clever trick. Both Darnay and Carton fall in love with Lucie. Then the French Revolution broke out. The bloodlust of the people seems to know no bounds and when Darnay is forced to return to France, his life also seems in danger. Can he be rescued in time?
