Babamin Sesi plot
The Kurdish Zeynel lives with his pregnant wife in Diyarbakir, a city in eastern Turkey. Zeynel's mother Basé lives alone in the family home in Elbistan, a nearly extinct village in the province. Zeynel's older brother Hasan has fled the country after previously joining the guerrilla movement. Since then he has not been heard from again. Their father Mustafa left for Saudi Arabia to earn money for his family. He died while working; all Zeynel has left of him is one of the audio cassettes that were sent back and forth instead of letters. Now that he is becoming a father himself, Zeynel asks his mother about the other cassettes. She holds off the boat; she doesn't want Zeynel's image of his father to change.
