Louise Bourgeois: The Spider, the Mistress and the Tangerine plot
Visual artist and icon of modern art Louise Bourgeois has been ninety-eight years old and she is still working. Between 1993 and 2007, Marion Cajori and Amei Wallach recorded the lively, astute and inventive Bourgeois. The result is a beautifully insightful documentary, a kind of cinematic journey into the life and imagination of the woman who, in 1982, at the age of 71, became the first woman to receive a major retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Bourgeois began her life in 1911 as the daughter of two Parisian carpet makers. After studying geometry at the Sorbonne, she chose art anyway. She leaves for America in 1938 with her American husband, the art historian Robert Goldwater, and that has become her new homeland.
