The Haunting plot

"Some houses are born bad."

For years, the dark and forbidden house has stood abandoned and alone on the hill - or so it seems. Intrigued by the house's dark past, Dr. Marrow's three guinea pigs, Theo Nell and Luke, come to the house to join him in a seemingly harmless experiment. Upon her arrival, Nell is mysteriously attracted to the house, and this interest turns out to be mutual. At night the problems really start and the experiment goes horribly in the wrong direction. The three discover the terrible secrets that the house on the hill holds.

Scary Movie? No.

Can you sustain that expectation for long? Nor does it seem to me. It has been said several times here that the house is more like a fairytale house than a real horror house. Very fair comment.

But why keep demanding that the movie is scary? The Haunting is much more like a gothic fairy tale, with a really great setting, colorful scenery and although technically far from perfect, beautiful cg.

But apparently there is horror above this film, and the film has to adapt to it. I'm sorry.

The acting is absolutely not great, the only good actor in the film is the decor. Story is nice enough. Not really exciting, but I haven't expected that from haunted mansion movies for a long time.

I was quite entertained with the beautiful rooms, beautiful camera work and the colorful event. More than enough to give it a best positive rating.

3*

Ever seen in the cinema and it is also on the big screen that this film comes into its own. The Haunting is a classic horror film where the atmosphere is much more important than the scares. Let the creaking doors, thumping walls, whispering voices, echoes and disturbing sounds take effect. The optimal use of your sound system is a must for a good experience. The baroque and massive surroundings of the castle also contribute to this. It could certainly be more exciting and the film takes too much time to get off the starting blocks, but what a great atmosphere nonetheless. Unfortunately also Zeta Jones in the cast: a really bad actress. Bah.

Relatively mediocre film with a strong casting. The budget doesn't seem too small to me, but it all feels quite made. Hill House I've heard of it before, I'm not sure if it's the same house as in Mike Flanagan's series and probably other movies have been made about it. This is probably some sort of remake of The Haunting from 1963 that I haven't seen yet. I won't do that anytime soon, because it wasn't that good before.
