Kirk Bennett is accused of murdering sexy singer Mavis Marlowe. Mavis recently divorced the pianist and lyricist, as well as alcoholic, Martin Blair. Kirk has found Mavis's dead body in her apartment at the Wilshire House and is immediately on the run, but Mavis' housekeeper Flo sees Kirk running away. Kirk could be guilty of murdering Mavis as she was blackmailing him. Catherine Bennett, Kirk's wife, is convinced that her husband is innocent and, with the help of Martin Blair, sets out to find the real culprit. Both suspect that Marko, the nightclub owner and employer of Mavis, is the killer and try to prove it. Catherine and Martin are under time pressure, because Kirk is meanwhile sentenced to death.
