The Innocence of Lizette plot
The teenage girl Lizette is lovingly cared for by the landlady Granny Page when her father dies. She likes and often sits in Granny's cousin Paul's newsstand. Rich customer Henry Faure, who is still grieving the death of his wife and child a year earlier, is always cheered by her. He becomes so fond of her that he proposes to Granny to adopt Lizette, and Granny does not want to begrudge Lizette this opportunity. When Faure has to go on a business trip for a few months later, Lizette spends a lot of time with Granny and Paul again. The day Faure comes home, Lizette finds a foundling on their doorstep. She wants to take care of the baby and tells Faure that it is her child. She has heard from Granny that "babies fall from the sky". Of course Faure wants to know who the father is and in her innocence Lizette mentions the name of the boy next door, Dan Nye...
