"The Strangest and Most Savage Manhunt in History!"
Earl Janoth (Laughton) rules a large publishing house, where George Stroud (Milland) worked as an editor of a crime magazine. When Earl kills his girlfriend out of jealousy, he is at his wits' end. He enlists George to solve the case and locate the only witness, but the latter soon finds himself in danger of being blamed for the crime.

One of the better film noirs, which manages to increase the tension after a quiet start. Ray Milland is extremely suitable for this kind of role and in Charles Laughton he finds his hypothermic counterpart. His wife Elsa Lanchester provides the comic note as the overwrought artist.
The modernized remake from 1987 (No Way Out) is also worth checking out.

Excellent film about a man who has been trying to go on vacation with his wife for a few years, but his boss needs him every time. An entertaining plot that is well constructed. Nice camera work with good use of the sets. Charles Laughton is entertaining as the extremely strict boss.

I thought the film was a bit different in tone. It is often almost farcical, but not quite. It's not a comedy but the tone constantly feels very lighthearted. A bit too airy for me. At the end you wonder how this can be solved and the starting point is interesting. Killer orders another to find himself in connection with murder.
