A penetrating film, realistic and raw with a sober, gloomy atmosphere. It never ceased to fascinate me. As a result, I had a bit of trouble with the long running time and the repetition of events. Towards the end I got into it more. It ends sadly, but that's about it. You have to be in the mood for it. 3.5*

Slow psychological drama in which two close friends, who grew up together in an orphanage, are reunited. The unstable Voichita [Cosmina Stratan] joins Alina [Christina Flutur] who has been living as a nun in an Orthodox monastery for some time. Voichita initially hopes to build a new life with Alina, but it soon turns out that Alina's loyalty to faith is too strong. Therefore, Voichita tries to adapt to the rigid regiment in the monastery, but it has unexpected consequences.

Stratan and Flutur jointly won the Golden Palm for best actress and Mungiu received the same prize for his screenplay. But Mungiu the director is the absolute star here. He keeps his camera constantly aimed at his protagonists, who in some scenes are no more than spectators or listeners. With the help of Mungiu's directing, Flutur and Stratan, who are both making their film debuts, manage to subtly expose some of their inner feelings. It could all have been a lot more compact and the lock is unsatisfactory.

Fine film by Christian Mungiu that sketches a raw, intense portrait of life within a religious community that flirts with the boundaries of a sect. In the spirit of their faith, you might think they have "good intentions," but their unworldliness and narrow thinking is so oppressive that they lose sight of the person themselves with their foolish regulations.

A film that didn't always grab me, although there were excellent periods or scenes that do stick. It won't make you very happy at all. It is a film that takes the necessary time for the events to happen. Beautifully layered and excellent acting. Excellent atmosphere creation also of a remote cold place of worship with an ultra-Orthodox paterfamilias and some monastic nuns.

I'm looking forward to RMN, Mungiu's next print. If it is also around the level of "4 Luni, 3 Săptămîni Şi 2 Zile", then you should be fine.
