A striking debut film from iconic horror director Tobe Hooper, who actually didn't start out in that genre at all. Eggshells is particularly unique and difficult to pigeonhole, but if you had to try, it would indeed be considered an imaginative drama with social criticism. The acting isn't particularly strong, and Hooper's rather loose approach doesn't always make for a coherent narrative, but the overall effect is remarkably experimental, colorful, and creative. It's a typical example of a craftsman who can give free rein to his creative spirit and conjure up innovative ideas on screen. Such an ending is certainly compelling for art lovers.
