Arès plot

In the near future, the order in the world has changed. With 10 million unemployed, France is now one of the poorest countries. People's attitudes fluctuate between rebelliousness and resignation, and people find an outlet in ultra-violent battles broadcast on television. The participants take legal doping and everything is allowed. Reda aka Ares, is a veteran who does odd jobs for the police. Everything will change when his sister is arrested and he must do everything possible to save them: she and her daughters.

The concept is nicely conceived, the story is simple but doable, the acting is also quite okay and it all doesn't look bad either. Yet one thing really disappoints me and that is the action, we only get to see a few very short and mediocre fights. Every kick or punch is taken with a different shot, it seems like a trend these days, and it's bloody annoying! They do this to cover up the lack of fighting skills, I don't think it looks good. Don't expect a great action movie because it isn't that. A small enough.

Low budget futuristic thriller with elements of a film like Blade Runner. It doesn't reach that quality anywhere, but the plot is not bad and visually everything looks neat. The acting work can also continue. Ultimately not distinctive enough to really make an impression, but the film certainly has its moments.

Entertaining action film with some nice, bloody fight scenes. Furthermore, Ares doesn't really excel in anything, although dystopian Paris is a very cool setting.
