Under the guise of 'another evening of watching newly found VHS' we threw The Bees into the recorder with great courage (leave out the 'good'). Exactly as expected it turned out to be pulp of the lowest shelf with horrible acting, non-existent special effects, a soundtrack that was clearly designed by someone who usually makes jingles for game shows and a hilarious story about bees who ultimately try to communicate with humans to tell them to stop polluting the environment. As sad as it sounds, people like John Carradine and John Saxon are even too good for this kind of work. I had to laugh occasionally from the sheer desperation, but otherwise it is exceptionally shit.

Released by the American Vinegar Syndrome, a very cool label that focuses on obscure B-titles. The Bees is certainly not one of their better titles but still has elements that could appeal to the B-movie lover. For example, we can admire genre favorites John Saxon and John Carradine and the ending is quite hilarious.

For those who are afraid of bees or hyperallergic to them, this is undoubtedly not fun. It didn't do much for me, but that was more because of the film than the bees themselves.

More of a typical low budget 80s movie that moves along leisurely. The plot is secondary, so it doesn't really matter, which is why many dialogues didn't matter much.

Well scary those scenes with those big black swarms of bees standing out against the blue sky. Not a great approach always, but all in all digestible. Nice to see John Carradine or John Saxon again.
