After seeing Victoria yesterday who has in common with Russian Ark that she was also recorded in one take, I can say that I think Russian Ark succeeded better in that experiment. Unlike Victoria, this film is not about a conventional story but more about a walk through Russian history and since Russian history interests me very much, especially that of the last century, I was able to quite enjoy this film, although in the The second half got pretty boring. At a certain point I got tired of the dignified-looking dignitaries and their followers in their 18th and 19th century outfits. I would have preferred to see some more images of Russians dressed according to the fashion of the previous and current century. The first part of this film, which mainly consisted of a corridor through halls with famous paintings by Flemish and Dutch masters, among others, was therefore by far the best.

3.5*

A pretentious one-take walk through Russian history with beautiful sets and fabulous costumes. That's about it as far as the positives of this bombastic film are concerned. I've always been very interested in history films, but this one soon got boring. I suspect that as far as I am concerned it will remain with this acquaintance with Aleksandr Sokurov.

My goodness what a movie, although it felt more like I was there… this was really insanely good. Should be in the Hermitage! So perfectly and beautifully executed with so many actors in the picture, beautiful..
