"A child and country were born at midnight once upon a time."
Midnight Children is the story of Saleem (Bhabha) and his adopted twin sister Shiva (Saran). They were both born on August 15, 1947, exactly at midnight, just as India became independent from Great Britain. Like other children born around the Midnight of Independence, Saleem and Shiva appear to have special powers, and are able to communicate telepathically with each other.
