Lovely Molly is a film with a fascinating main character in which it is never entirely clear how things really stand.

The strongest aspect of the film was the sound design, because apart from a scene towards the end featuring one of the scariest creations ever captured on film, LM is about what you hear, not what you see. The sound scared the living daylights out of me at times; it was done very powerfully.

Gretchen Lodge is a phenomenon. Whatever emotion is asked of her, she delivers it with a verve I haven't seen in ages. She is not afraid to bare all, and she goes from timid to horny to provocative and back again, sometimes in the same scene. A phenomenal performance.

Sánchez's big breakthrough was, of course, The Blair Witch Project, and the unique aspect of that film—the first-person camera—is used here in exactly the right way as well. The home movies are scary, and the green glow adds nothing extra to the scariest moments; the perfect combination of image and sound.

The outcome leaves everything pleasantly ambiguous, and I certainly appreciate that. And once again, that ONE shot towards the end; kudos. A deliciously macabre piece of work with a magnificent Gretchen Lodge, and an absolute must for fans of psycho-horror.

Pretty good. A bit whiny at the beginning, and when it reveals information about Molly and her background, you sometimes get the feeling it lags behind a bit, but as soon as the downward spiral really kicks in, the film only gets better. Nicely acted by Lodge, atmospheric tone, controlled pacing, a timid soundtrack that works with exquisite precision, and when blood starts flowing, you can safely call it a heap of disturbing horror. A layered film about a struggle with what appears to be an inner demon.

Wonderful movie.

It oozes class. Sanchez reveals practically nothing, yet manages to create a creepy atmosphere. This is mainly due to the dark setting, the weird sound effects, and the strong acting. Sanchez doesn't need much to be frightening. He continues the Blair Witch concept beautifully. That is personally how I like to see them best. Molly's deterioration is depicted in a truly wonderful way.

4*
