Dredd plot

"Judgement is coming"

Dredd takes us to the rugged streets of Mega City One, a lonely oasis of quasi-civilization on cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared judge of the Street Judges, with the power to uphold the law, punish offenders and execute them—if necessary—on the spot. He teams up with aspiring judge Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), who possesses psychic powers, against Ma-Ma (Lena Headey), the head of a drug gang who trades in a new drug that taints reality and hides in a huge apartment building called Peach Trees.

Keeps looking away at a second glance, even though the slomo scenes are very kitschy, the colors are sometimes a bit ugly and a more convincing cyberpunk look here and there would have helped (Gleeson doesn't look good for example). Depraved as Mega City One is, being a Judge must be a world job compared to what the rest of the population seems to be condemned to in this grim vision of the future, full of ghettos and junkies. The voice-activated gun with display is a cool gadget. Small detail maybe but still important, just like the uniforms that look good. Urban has fun with his wrinkled mouth and growl, Thirlby is a smart addition as a more human element and Heady was just born for the role of queen bitch. No philosophical talk about whether you can give someone as much power as the judges get, just kick ass and shoot that scum. Bring on the TV series Judge Dredd: Mega City One now, and please with Urban! But it remains to be seen whether that actually happens.

revision.

Dredd remains a film that I used to like a lot better than I think it is now. Still, I have to admit that this is one of the better ones of its kind, which fortunately also has enough blood and innovative directing moments to distinguish itself from similar films. The practices performed in this film are extremely simple.

I'm not quite sure what to think of Urban either. The fact that he wears his helmet throughout the film is a conscious choice, but he shows little of his own talent. A deep voice and some wild corners of his mouth are all the moments you get to see from him. I actually don't find it convincing enough, especially once the other judges show up. You can't even take them apart anymore.

I thought the action and especially the slow-motion images were much better arranged. Very funny effects, excellent camera work and some very memorable action moments. There are enough beautiful images in this film that make it worth sitting out. In addition, with less than 100 minutes on the clock, it does not take that long and can easily guarantee an entertaining evening.

Sometimes some tempo moments that could have been better, but otherwise an entertaining and quite innovative action film that only deals with the action and not many unnecessary side plots. Makes films like this immediately better films in my opinion, because I like films that just stick to the core without too much fuss around it. Once again had a nice evening with Dredd.

Top entertainment! Really enjoyed it. Nice and fat action that reminds me of older “cyberpunk” top films from the 80s and 90s. Wonderful, fat, atmospheric soundtrack that made my whole room vibrate with my double 18 inch subwoofers. Also visually great.
