Joshua (Josh Hutcherson) is a 15-year-old child prodigy who was once abandoned by his addicted mother. He lives in Carmel-by-the-Sea, a northern California town known for its local artist circle. His talent is recognized by two seemingly contradictory personalities, Anne-Marie (Laura Bacall) and Everly (Alfred Molina), and they take care of him.
