Awful, headache-inducing Saw clone. The acting is completely crap, the accompanying score is pretentious, and the look is perhaps one of the most annoying I've ever seen. The excess of crappy close-ups is embarrassing and the camerawork is ridiculously bad. No, this really had nothing to hold my attention.

A South African slasher (at least, that's the direction it's going) that was made for a piece of cake and only takes place in 2 locations (under that deserted highway and in the interrogation room). It also all seems to start off standard, 2 people wake up chained up and a masked psycho seems to want something from them. Those same people are also interrogated by the police... What happens next you have to see for yourself, because the film just works on autopilot towards a nice wicked denouement. That doesn't always have to be negative, maybe that was even the intention of the director.

However, don't expect this to be a series of tortures, like Saw and Hostel. The Unforgiving manages to remain subtle in this. There are a few quite painful scenes, such as the drill scene and that syringe in the eye scene, which, thanks to the shaking camera methods, also feel extra painful. I also thought the camera work was fine and especially the filtering that is used, but it can also be quite annoying at times because of the excessive shaking and movement.

And the denouement... as I said, see for yourself.

Great little horror film so that it can definitely still pass. Bad acting didn't bother me that much, the film just went on its course.

Bloody boring South African Saw wannabe with a bunch of uninteresting characters. A bloody ugly look with bad camerawork and terrible use of color. Any kind of pace is taken out of it by constantly cutting to those interviews, making even the 73 minutes feel like an eternity.

In terms of horror it also has very little to offer. Here and there some blood, but especially in terms of tension you should not expect anything at all.

Quickly forgotten.
