Venetian Bird plot

Private detective Edward Mercer travels to Venice at the request of a French insurance company to track down a brave Italian. The Italian saved the life of a fighter pilot during the war and they are eager to reward him for that. However, that is the story Edward is being told. Edward goes to a store to meet with his first contact, only to find him dead. And that's where the problems begin.
