The Other Chelsea: A Story from Donetsk plot
A little billionaire has a football club. The wealthy Russian Roman Abramovich bought the British club Chelsea, the Georgian Merab Zjordania the Dutch Vitesse and the Ukrainian billionaire Rinat Akhmetov pumped a considerable part of his wealth into his great hobby Shakhtar Donetsk. This documentary is about the latter club, or rather about two fans: the miner Sasha stands between the people and the local politician Kolya is in the VIP box, above his head. They both witness how Shakhtar is making waves internationally. In 2009 in the Europa League, then in the Champions League. Although filmmaker Jakob Preuss gives a striking shape to the adventures of the football club, it is his job to do more. Shakhtar is at the intersection of politics, entertainment and economics. According to Kolya, the club's performance affects his party, the Party of the Regions, which includes current president Viktor Yanukovych and Akhmetov. The people of Donetsk, one of the largest cities in Ukraine, are a large majority of this Russian-loyal Party.
