The Forgotten Man plot
Lieutenant Joe Hardy (Dennis Weaver) fights in the Vietnam War. When he is captured by the Viet Cong, he is pronounced dead by the army. Joe manages to escape and returns to his hometown. However, he does not get the warm welcome he had hoped for, when it turns out that everyone has gone on with daily life. His wife Marie (Anne Francis) has remarried and his daughter Sharon (Pamelyn Ferdin) lives with another family under a different name. His company has since been sold. In addition, his friends and former business associates treat him as if they hoped he was really dead.
