The Creeping Flesh plot

"A terrifying journey through the nightmare worlds of evil, insanity and terrible revenge."

London, late Victorian times. Professor Emmanuel Hildern returns from New Guinea with the skeleton of a demonic creature, according to local legend a Spirit of Evil. When he cleans the skeleton with water, he notices that flesh is starting to grow on it. He dissects the cells, which turn out to be malignant, and makes a serum with which he hopes to cure insanity. A while later he uses his daughter as a guinea pig, but it ends badly. She ends up in the institution of his half-brother James, who is himself leading an investigation into insanity. James pays a visit to Emmanuel and steals his notes. When he reads them he decides to steal the skeleton but is oblivious to the fact that it must not come into contact with water.

Agree with alexspyforever about this horror work.
Indeed a bit stiff and theatrical. Nice concept, but execution leaves much to be desired. This is how the monster looks disappointing and it never gets really exciting. The whole fuss about family affairs is also drawn out far too long, especially when the daughter goes into town for entertainment in bars and her angry outbursts as a result of annoying pawing men. The coincidence that she ends up with a wanted felon is a bit lame. The atmosphere and setting are okay and the acting is also convincing. All in all a mediocre movie. 5/10

Oh yes, I think this is a very nice British horror. Professor comes home with a strange skeleton, when it gets wet it grows flesh. "What is it that you want from me" woeha!!! Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee in one of the last classic British horrors. I love him.

Devil's Blood...

Little sensational Victorian horror film. Although the premise was promising, too little was done with it. As often in those old-fashioned movies, the best was in the last 10-15 minutes. There is a creepy atmosphere over the full length, especially when the daughter gets an injection of "devil's blood", but creepy was unfortunately not synonymous with exciting here. Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee are of course iconic in these types of films.
