From lifeguard and B-movie actor to General Electric representative, from governor to the most powerful man in the world; America's 40th President (1981-1989). His deeply held distaste for communism led to an unexpected political career, the influence of which on American life is still felt today. Reagan was reviled and admired. Democrats and Republicans alike hope to win votes by invoking Reagan's ideas. Proponents see him as the man who changed the conservative movement in America and thus changed the Republican party, the country and ultimately the world. However, opponents see him as a charming villain, who did more harm than good.
