Strange basic fact, where one is certain that one half of a twin has committed a murder, but because they protect each other and one is therefore not sure who did it, the police are powerless? Then just arrest them both. Well, all the actors do well, De Havilland of course the best, and the (attempts at) psychological analyzes of our psychiatrist in the leading role are interesting. Towards the end it may become a bit too predictable, but that doesn't spoil the fun. Finally, it is charming that both sisters usually wear a necklace or brooch that shows which of the 2 it is, so that we as a viewer do not get confused.

Olivia de Havilland succeeds in giving the two sisters different personalities. Terry is manipulative and assertive; Ruth is timid and insecure. With Ruth you see the tension in her shoulders and you hear the doubt in her speaking style. At first they wear the same clothes, but later "evil twin" Terry wears black clothes, while Ruth wears white. The doubling motif is also present in the mirror. When Terry is unmasked, she smashes a mirror.

The psychological research uses methods that were popular at the time: the association test, the lie detector and the Rorschach test, which shows a rich imagination. It is a captivating psychological thriller with a complex double role for De Havilland.

Good film about a woman who is suspected of murder, but has an identical twin sister. A psychological drama with some thriller elements. It doesn't want to be really exciting, but it is well put together. An excellent double role by Olivia de Havilland, and technically it is also done almost seamlessly.
