Left for Dead plot

"Death is just the beginning."

Like every year on Halloween, the students of a Canadian city break loose with drugs, sex and wild parties. But this time an uninvited guest comes to visit. He wears a Halloween mask and decimates the partygoers with a machete. Tommy saw the murder of his friend Freddy, but neither the police nor his friends believe him and the body is gone. What is going on here? Tommy gets a terrible suspicion and a very bloody spectacle begins.

Well. Normally I like this, but this wasn't anything special. Very predictable, the acting was awful, and not at all creepy or exciting. The kills themselves were very disappointing, not very original. I thought the curly blonde was doable, but otherwise, the whole cast is utterly interchangeable. It's just another typical revenge slasher. What I like to see is a killer who can instill fear, and in this case, it was almost laughable. There's some nudity here and there (which isn't great either), and even those scenes are annoying. It could have had potential, but it fails on every level.

The killer wears a captivating mask, and several cast members give decent performances, but otherwise, Left for Dead is largely an atmospheric and soulless affair. Fans will appreciate the presence of Steve Byers and Danielle Harris in this story, but director Christopher Harrison casts them in such caricatural roles that they offer little. The kills aren't particularly noteworthy either, giving the impression that significant budget cuts were made to pay for the background set design. Essentially, it's nothing more than a cheaper version of similar slasher fare, but fans will surely find something to appreciate.
