“I checked the list of people I trust and your name ain't on it.”

Smooth courtroom/crime thriller. The film has some nice twists and the story is well put together. Director Furman keeps the momentum going and the film is quite exciting at times. I've read the book and yet the film remains interesting, even though you already know which twists are coming.

And the movie has a lot of famous actors who all do it well. McConaughey has played these kinds of roles before, but was made for the role of a shrewd and arrogant lawyer.

This movie is pretty strong overall, the story is well fleshed out and the acting is good, great at times! Still, something was missing, everyone here talks about tension, but this could have been done much better in my opinion. It's about small things, for example when Martinez sees the photos. They shouldn't have shown us that photo at all. Leaving us in the dark as to who was in the picture, because at the time I was still in the phase where I gave Roulet the benefit of the doubt. It was clear that he was not 100% honest, but I still had the idea that things could go in a different direction. At first I thought he was holding a photo of the man who was also in the bar.. That moment was the turning point for me and I could already partly outline the story. What followed was a lot less exciting for me. It was those little things that could have made the movie even better. Fortunately, there were still twists here and there that I hadn't fully factored in, so it was still good to look away.

This is also the only negative thing I can say about this film. For the rest it is just very well worked out. The entire cast does an excellent job, actually no one who really falls by the wayside or someone who has to pull the cart. I read a lot of reviews about 'standard story', this is fine, I actually watch very few crime films, so for me it was all quite innovative.

So what strikes me in particular is that the tension could have been built up better. Now a scene followed, with a denouement of that scene. This was unnecessary and also a shame, it could have made the film so much stronger. Maybe that's partly due to me, I do like movies where you have to let your brain crack for a while. Still, this film gets a large enough, after all, it is further well developed. 4*.

A dime a dozen movie in advance. McConaughey with his smooth lawyer chat, something we've seen more than once. Moreover, I quickly get the impression with films in the legal profession that when you have seen one it is often a repetition of moves, with a few exceptions.

The film opens with little surprise. McC as of course the slick, slick and slick lawyer who isn't even impressed by a biker gang and is actually the handyman of everything that can't be trusted and apparently also good at getting these people 'off the hook'. This lad doesn't expect much acclaim from colleagues or friendly servants, so the trouble he ends up in is quite funny.

After the necessary slippery stuff, and a case that doesn't seem overly difficult, a plot develops in which the problems for Haller get bigger and bigger. The question is, therefore, how to get out of here unscathed and without losing face. It is no longer about the question of blame, but it is nice in the end that the technical error and how Haller indicates another turn in the other direction.

Notably, the synopsis states that Haller works from the backseat of his Lincoln, hence The Lincoln Lawyer. Still, he doesn't spend much time in that car, at least not as an office. The soundtrack is nice with Kavinsky - Nightcall and the easy listening I Remember by Deadmau5 and Kaskade. The cast is fine and actually all the ingredients are there for a decent film, and that can be called The Lincoln Lawyer. Yet the film surprisingly doesn't get me going and doesn't really do anything for me, and that is of course a loss to be able to appreciate a film better. So nice for once, but nothing special.
