The Lost Future plot
"Welcome to the apocalypse."
A group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world, where the jungles, forests, pristine swamps and civilization have been obliterated, struggle for survival. They are determined to fight the genetically engineered beasts and mysterious diseases in an effort to bring the human race back to the top of the food chain.

The Lost Future actually surprised me positively.
This is mainly because the special effects are not disappointing. The smartest thing the makers have done is not to cast Sean Bean (admittedly, a well-known name helps), but to avoid CGI as much as possible. At the beginning of the film we encounter a monster, which still looks quite nice, and at the end of the film when the protagonists discover the dilapidated city (New York?). It also looks nice and certainly knows how to convince for a film with this budget.
Furthermore, many normal sets in nature. Something I like.
The story is only "so so" and barely manages to offer any depth, partly due to the short playing time. This makes a film that offers quite an adventurous, epic premise no more than a standard movie.

Reminds me a bit of Terra Nova. The series that after a few episodes on TV is already starting to get pretty boring. The Lost Future is an equally scanty television drama that has quite a few moments and nice ideas, but impressing is clearly a bridge too far. Sean Bean is doing nice, but he could never have worn this. Simply, because the plot is just too easy. With all the cavemen-looking people, it was also reminiscent of Battlefield Earth. The mutants seem to come straight out of The Lord of the Rings. Sean Bean does have experience with Orcs, of course.
It's just too easy to start a movie with a problem and let the rest of the time fill serve as the moment to find the answer and bring it back. In terms of structure, it's like Apocalypto. While the landscapes look good, the search for the magical yellow powder was one of plot holes and flawed construction. Other than that it was just pretty boring. Other than that, there isn't much to criticize about The Lost Future. I once stood with the DVD in my hands, but now I realize that it was the right choice not to pay any money for it. It is a funny little adventure that radiates little post-apocalypse and suffers most from the lack of a good subject or (sub) theme.

Pretty decent, actually.
Budget was probably barely available and then I think the damage is surprisingly not too bad. The story (and especially the execution) is a bit crazy (the roguish hero trio takes an hour to reach the city, while the return takes maybe a minute).
And yet it is all easy to digest...
... something that is absolutely not the credit of the cast. Sean Bean is still decent, but ultimately only has the 3rd or 4th roll. The male protagonists have no charisma and, like Annabelle Wallis, the dialogues come out ridiculously wooden. However, the latter has the advantage of having a nice face (and body, not to forget!).
What The Lost Future does have to offer is a fairly successful look/decoration. Most sets and locations are made of natural materials, which is definitely a plus. The bit of CGI that is involved is not that bad. The same goes for the monster in the beginning, unless you expect something from the level Lord of the Rings.
By the way, the Bad Rikken on duty are very similar to creations from Tolkien's universe. One takes the head of an Uruk-Hai and put it on the body of an Orc/ Aardman; and we have ugly mutts with zombie behavior. Oh yeah.
Far from perfect, but absolutely watchable for a B-movie.
