Despite the high risks and many warnings, a large investment bank sells risky investment packages to their clients. Late one evening, two young employees discover that the bank's collateral is no longer enough to offset any losses and that the company is heading for a major disaster. As all of Wall Street tries to get rid of these bad investments, they realize to their horror that the market is about to collapse. An overnight meeting is organized with the top of the bank, where a choice has to be made between two options: let the bank go under or try to sell the risky packages.

A film that can be viewed as a psychological thriller, even the fourth time I saw it still exciting because of the brilliant ensemble work of all the actors, no one excepted, but as the man whose weary countenance shows the disillusionment, the touching Kevin makes Spacey most impressed (and that's being said by someone who isn't necessarily a Spacey fan). I still wonder about Jeremy Irons (who is a favorite actor) if he shouldn't have played his part a bit more bold and cunning, but then he might have become too much of a caricature; I read somewhere on the internet the description "reptilian" for him, and it fits him perfectly.
Incredible numbers: the company is on the brink of bankruptcy, but every merchant who hits his "target" earns a $1.4 million bonus, and when all merchants meet their "targets" there will be another 1.3 million for everyone on top – unimaginable amounts, but apparently easy to cough up if the liquidation sale is successful. On the other hand, it's just as unbelievable that this movie could be made with such actors for 3 (according to Chandor) or 3½ (according to IMDb) million dollars - the annual salary of Paul Bettany's character alone would almost cost this film in its own right. able to finance a whole. Pretty much everything shot in one building, plus one set (the bar where Zachary Quinto and Penn Badgley are looking for Stanley Tucci) and one scene on the street (the conversation between Tucci and Paul Bettany).

The banking crisis. A complicated subject that can turn out to be very boring is presented with the necessary tension in this film. This is partly due to the excellent cast. Psychological games are played and employees have to leave the sinking ship, but not before their own interests have been properly looked after. Some don't want to, but given the choice, they don't really have a choice but to go with it. The mortgage still has to be paid. That the house of cards then collapses, so be it.
Several films have been made on this subject since then, but I thought this was the best.

Decent movie that can be a bit boring at times. The subject matter is rather complicated, and that is why it is simplified to such an extent that it is also not clear. The number of times characters say "simply explain to me what's going on" already betrays that the makers are looking for a way to explain the matter. The mysterious, dark atmosphere during the playing time makes you want to look further. Unfortunately, the part of the story where it really could have been unpacked, namely when one has to try to sell those products within a day, gets quite rushed with a few shots that last less than 2 minutes. Definitely could have been more.
