A new experiment with pesticides causes insects to attack each other. But the method also has an effect on the dead, who come back to life. Edna and George, two accidental passers-by, try to get to safety, but are suspected by the local authorities of the cannibalistic murders that are plaguing the town.

An experimental machine from the Department of Agriculture is being used in the English countryside to kill insects with radiation. A side effect of this is that the recently deceased rise from the dead. A loser and a girl who crashed his motorcycle are just on their way to her sister's house.
The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue is a typical Italian film where they do everything they can to make it seem British, just like What Have You Done to Solange? for example . That worked out very well because you actually feel like you are in the British countryside and even down to the smallest details, all the signs are correct. Only the supporting actors reveal that the film was actually largely shot in Spain.
It is striking that the film does not want to ride on the success of an earlier zombie film. Dawn of the dead hadn't been released yet and Night of the Living Dead had been released a while ago. Everything was certainly not depicted in a bad way. The way the zombies were filmed even seemed very modern. And the soundtrack - which is a bit reminiscent of 1950s science fiction - was actually very strong too. It's not as characteristic as Fulci's zombies, but they are certainly there too and although it was cut away quite quickly, there was also quite a bit of gore.
There are not a lot of kills or very many zombies, but for a zombie film the story was not nearly as wafer-thin as you would expect. Entertaining video.

This atmospheric horror film is a virtual remake of Night of the Living Dead (1968) by George A. Romero (including the finale where the hero is shot dead), but it lacks the satirical touch that made Romero's film a masterpiece. Ray Lovelock is also somewhat colorless in the leading role. He plays George Meaning, a motorcyclist who gets a ride from Edna Simmonds [Cristina Galbó] after she damages George's motorcycle during a gas stop so much so that he has to have it repaired. Edna is tired from a long trip to the hospital, where her mentally unstable sister is being treated. A test was done in the vicinity of the hospital with a pesticide that causes 'only creatures with very little brains' to kill each other. In any case, that category includes vermin... but also the fresh corpses in the morgue from the title.
Although the film has a reputation for high gore content, director Jorge Grau takes almost an hour to build up the tension. This film then degenerates into a bloodbath that, partly due to decent use of make-up and acceptable special effects, will more than satisfy splatter horror fans. And of course the old credo also applies: better a good steal than a bad idea. This clearly falls under 'well stolen'.

Strong zombie film that feeds on the old-fashioned way in terms of the behavior of the living dead. The film has many strong points, such as a well-constructed story that builds to a delicious, bloody finale. The locations are great and you really feel like you're somewhere in the English countryside, but apparently everything was filmed in Spain. The idea surrounding the infection was also well thought out. In addition, a fiercely driven police inspector who turns it into a murder case involving satanic rituals and drugs until the last moment. The gore is well executed and the ultimate ending is simply a wonderful conclusion. 8/10
