The story is fantasy and mystery, but the film mainly excels for its special camera work that leads to beautiful nightmare effects.

It starts with John Randolph with his anxious, sweaty face and his doubts and continues until it's Rock Hudson's turn...

It seems that Frankenheimer attached the camera to the actor to get the desired close-ups.

If the film becomes a bit smoother afterwards, the end then again contains a nice piece of film work.

Not exactly my genre, but this one was still fascinating.

There is something to be said about Seconds. Not exactly the kind of films you expect from Frankenheimer. It's a pretty heavy psychological thriller about a man who lives an empty life and undergoes plastic surgery to start a different life under a different identity. After the strong intro with some experimental tricks, it collapses when he tries to adapt to his new identity and lets Frankenheimer scenes drag on without much added value (the bacchanalia, the party where Wilson gets drunk). The ending is very grim. A strange film that will be a discovery for those who have never seen it before.
