Swamp Shark plot

"Fresh water. Fresh meat."

The film is set in the beautiful swamps of Atchafalaya Basin during the summer. Lots of beautiful teens are at the beach on the weekend before the 'Gator Fest' starts. That night, a smuggling of animals gets horribly out of hand and a large sea creature escapes into the remote rivers. Local drunk Jackson is found bitten to death at McDaniel's restaurant. The sheriff accuses McDaniel's escaped alligators and tries to put him in jail. However, Rachel McDaniel, the head of the family, claims she saw a shark's fin emerge from the water.

A reasonably entertaining monster movie that is slightly better than the average Asylum production. The presence of Robert Davi and especially Kristy Swanson contributes to this as well. Furthermore, the swamps are depicted reasonably well, and I managed to laugh quite a few times.

Mediocre but fun.

Unexpectedly a fine shark movie. Where I had expected something completely over the top like Sharktopus (2010) or something, Swamp Shark keeps a bit more subdued.

First of all, a great cast. Robert Davi is very entertaining as the grumpy sheriff, and Jeff Chase, Kristy Swanson, and DB Sweeney all do a fine job too. Not unfamiliar faces either, of course: Robert Davi (Die Hard), Kristy Swanson (Dude, Where's My Car?), DB Sweeney (Jericho).

As I said before, the film never goes as over the top as films like Sharktopus. There is a genuine attempt to create suspense here, and because the CGI shark is rarely fully visible, the film maintains a somewhat more serious tone. I actually thought that reference to the Jaws scene where Brody throws the meat and the shark suddenly surfaces was very cool. The film could have used a bit more humor, though. It is there (that deputy spying on the couple), but there could have been a bit more. It does have a funny ending, though, where it briefly looks like they are going to steal it straight from Jaws, only to then chop the shark into pieces (although I thought I had seen a similar ending before in Frankenfish (2004)

So, this movie is fine. A nice cast, some humor here and there, and overall just good entertainment. However, don't expect something completely over the top like many of those Syfy Roger Corman productions.

A 2 for this little creature not from the sea.
But so, a shark in the swamp, yeah, that's crazy.
A bit like Jaws doing the street.
He feasts on limbs and torsos.
Offered to him by local rednecks.
Including some beautiful and therefore almost-sex.
Because of that beast that disturbs it.
And so, boy and girl overboard.

Still pretty good popcorn entertainment.
And fortunately, they don't hit the mark immediately.
But eventually it gets ground up.
And they come to pick up the villain in shackles.
