A true lover of Abbott and Costello? Nah...not that either. But every now and then I watch one as a snack. In any case, those two are a lot more enjoyable than the Three Stooges. Their videos are always nice and short and the children love them. By the way, Lou Costello probably looked closely at Oliver Hardy, because a lot of mannerisms seem to be copied.

In the Foreign Legion is one of the nicest from Abbott and Costello that I have seen so far.

This is indeed not their best film, but on the other hand, Abbott and Costello in the Foreign Legion is very entertaining. Especially their arrival in Algiers and especially the scene on the slave market is very nice and the desert also guarantees some funny routines.

The supporting roles themselves are also well filled, but they do not contribute too much to the comedic content of the film. And neither do the script and the direction, because I find both of them rather lackluster and quite uninspired.

So the duo has to do it mainly on their own strength and I must say they certainly do not disappoint and still lift In the Foreign Legion to a very acceptable level.

Not a highlight in their oeuvre, but certainly a solid mid-engine.

In this film, Douglass Dumbrille reprises the role of a corrupt Arab sheikh after his appearance in Lost in a Harem. Filming for this film was originally scheduled for December 1949. However, Lou Costello had to undergo gallbladder surgery in November 1949, and filming was postponed. Despite having a stunt double, Costello did the wrestling scenes himself. Unfortunately, this left him with a twisted arm and a stretched tendon.

Although this film is a bit rushed, there is plenty to enjoy. The humor is often so simple, but ultimately still manages to put a smile on your face. This also applies to the lightning-fast puns. In this film we hear the voice of Candy Candido. He would work with Bud Abbott after Costello's death. Still entertaining enough for fans.

3.0 *
