The Road to Mandalay plot
A truck transports its "illegal" human cargo at night. Guo is on board. He does not intend to stay in Thailand. Fresh out of military service, he has a plan: work for a while in a textile factory, then return money to Burma, then find the love of his life and live happily ever after. He doesn't expect to find the woman of his dreams, Lianqing, aboard a truck. Lianqing is determined to leave poverty behind and build a better future. She has no work permit. It makes her vulnerable to exploitation and insecure. They must endure terrible hardships to eventually live together.
