A reasonable drama film...

Reasonable story...

Well, a true story...

Decent acting...

Too bad that some of it doesn't have nice HD quality...

Not bad...

Faded glory in a bland TV movie.

Jennifer Love Hewitt is just a tad too old for the role she plays here, the grown-up beauty pageant queen struggling to keep up with the bills. The spark in her eyes is still there, but it's only briefly visible—otherwise, the thick layer of filler dominates. Cybill Shepherd, then, was already too old for the television series she starred in back in the 80s. That she can still play the grandmother so radiantly now is an ode to the chemical industry. At least, that's the only explanation that doesn't land me in the mystical or occult corner.

It's a shame the story is so poorly developed. A bit more suspense wouldn't have hurt—both in the story and the visuals. The way JLH is now explained to have such an enthusiastic clientele remains a bit—ahem—unsatisfying. And the announcement at the end, that this is indeed a dramatized version of a true story, well, that's the final blow.

The days of Delblaine and Heartbreakers are over. A shame. Not that she's too old now, but her enthusiasm seems to have vanished.

A film that's been sitting on the shelf for ages, and now it's available on Netflix. So, finally, I made time for it. It seems more like a TV movie with the necessary drama, where the lead actress initially means well to help her family through financial hardship, but gradually sinks deeper and deeper into prostitution and even drugs. Towards the end, you also learn that this story is based on true events. Not much actually happens, as the story revolves mainly around the massages and family problems. Don't expect erotic scenes, but Jennifer Love Hewitt often walks around in sexy lingerie and she certainly gives her character depth. Apparently, a series about this was made a year later, also starring Jennifer. 6/10
